Dhonig of the wine blog 2 Days Per Bottle is hosting today’s Wine Blogging Wednesday, and for his theme he asked wine bloggers, “What will you drink to toast the end of the Bush era?” The answer to this came to me quicker than I ever thought possible, for although I’m a bubbles kind of chick, and there would certainly be no day more celebratory for me than the inauguration, something else came to mind. Twisted Oak makes a great Rhone blend called *%#&@! which retails for under 20 bucks, and although I’ll readily admit that its name is what got me to pick it up in the first place, the juice has kept me going back. The reason for choosing this wine to celebrate the end of the Bush/Cheney nightmare is because over the last eight years I have used the word Twisted Oak symbolized more than I have my entire life! But first, the wine…

The wine is a blend of grenache, syrah and mourvedre. It’s all sorts of spicy and earthy, with lots of berries on the backend. It’s killer aroma tends to draw passerby interest a lot, but I simply horde the bottle under the crook of my arm and run and hide out on the deck with a good book. With autumn on top of us, it’s a perfect fit.

As for Bush, the first four years were painful enough, but the reelection nearly brought me to my knees. In honor of a man who made me say “holy fuck” every time he mispronounced Abu Ghraib or nuclear, “no fucking way” every time he linked Hussein to Al Qaeda, “what the fuck” every time he spoke about non-existent WMDs and “give me a fucking break” each time he cut funding for our blessed veterans, I will raise not a glass but an entire bottle of *%#&@! and say “you are fucking OUTTA HERE!”
